Annie Madison
Certified Postpartum Doula
Providing Postpartum Solutions
Moving
from England in 1987 Annie began a career in childcare. Spending more
than 20 years caring for children and their families in the greater
Los Angeles area she became affectionately known as “Annie the
Nanny.” The progression from a career as Nanny to Doula and Newborn
Care Specialist began in 2001 with a Birth Doula class at the Chapman Family Center and, was a natural transition.
This
transition continued with training from DONA and was
further affirmed by a visit to an orphanage in Africa in August 2004.
These two experiences brought a deeper appreciation for the family
unit and a desire to empower parents with newborns. From
2005 to 2008 Annie completed Postpartum Doula Training with CAPPA and
Breastfeeding Certification as a peer counselor for the city of
Pasadena while working part time as a Nanny. Annie went on to certify as a Doula through the Aviva Midwife program. Annie volunteered in a variety of settings gaining experience with many of the joys and difficulties faced during the postpartum period. Since then Annie has
cared for over 30 newborns and their families.
Annie is also a certified infant massage instructor, (CIMI). Happy to teach parents, especially Fathers, how to enjoy the benefits of bonding through the interactive communication of nurturing touch.
Challenges
that arise from: Long and exhausting labor, Cesarean birth, blood
clots, postpartum depression, etc. have only served to encourage
Annie in her calling to families with newborns. The joyful
celebrations of: Adoption, multiples, VABC's, natural or
uncomplicated births, add to her life's many pleasures.
If
Mothers are breastfeeding or bottle feeding , If her Fathers are
first time dads or veterans Annie enjoys watching them grow confident
as they are empowered to embrace their roles as partners and parents.
Needless to say, Annie LOVES her work.
